Raees is set in 1980s Gujarat, it shows the story of a cruel and clever bootlegger (Shahrukh Khan) whose business is highly challenged and eventually thwarted by a tough cop Ghulam Patel (Nawazuddin Saddiqui)..A (Humsafar) girl Mohsina(MahiraKhan)played a role of a wife of shahrukh khan a strong bold character of housewife is shown in film and she is a best choice play such type of role.The film criticizes the prohibition of alcohol, prostitution and illegal drugs in Gujarat.
Shooting of the film began in April 2015. The film has been shot in Mumbai and sets were re-designed to depict Ahamdabad slums. The film was to be shot in Gujarat, but due to the negative reactions for Dholakia's 2006 film Parzania, which was based on 2002 Gujarat Violence, the producers decided to shoot the film in Mumbai.Only 20 Days of shooting is remaining.It will be completed by January 2016.
